I'm going to talk about Émile
Durkheim.
Émile Durkheim was
French sociologist, who was born in 1858 and died in 1917. He is considerate
one of the fathers of sociology.
Durkheim's
importance is owing to the capacity of defense of the sociology like a
scientist discipline, and the application of the scientific method in the study
of social phenomenon.
His principal work
is about the suicide. In his book, "the suicide", Durkheim aboard the
topic of suicide like a social phenomenon and not like an individual one. This
was a plot twist in sociology, because it was the first time that a phenomenon
that it was considered individual and private, it was aboard like a collective
one.
Durkheim's
importance nowadays is due to his magnificent works and the scientific method
that the sociology uses to this day. And is interesting how he aboard the
topics and the conclusions in his works.
I found about
Durkheim in class this year, in the class of sociology. We don’t aboard his
work but we used to talk about him a lot. In this semester we work with his
book "The suicide" in the class of statistics, and we talked about
how he took the suicide phenomenon and how he work with statistics and to make
conclusions.
